
The MOOT CORP® Competition was directed by Gary M. Cadenhead, Ph.D. Dr. Cadenhead has a lifelong involvement in entrepreneurial activities. He has started and managed his own ventures, consulted new ventures, served on the board of new businesses, and assisted minority-owned businesses. He currently serves on the board of Spectrum Hotel Group, Inc. and is a governor of Opportunity Funding Corporation.
Dr. Cadenhead is a Senior Lecturer in Entrepreneurship in the Texas Business School, The University of Texas at Austin. He graduated Phi Beta Kappa from Southern Methodist University, earned an M.B.A. from Harvard University, and received his Ph.D. from Stanford University. Dr. Cadenhead teaches courses in entrepreneurship, strategic management, design management, and managerial accounting. He also teaches the courses that prepare UT MBAs for the MOOT CORP® Competition. His articles have appeared in various professional journals, including Journal of Accounting Research, Accounting Review, Abacus, and Design Management Journal.
Prior to joining The University of Texas, he held faculty positions at Stanford University, UCLA, and the University of California at Santa Barbara; he also has served as Chief Financial Officer of the Center for the Study of Democratic Institutions. He is an experienced consultant and expert witness. During 1988, he served as research director for the Texas Strategic Economic Policy Commission, which developed a strategic plan for the state of Texas. In 1985 and 1989, he was selected by MBA students to receive the Outstanding Graduate Business Professor Award. In 1995 he was recognized as one of the Top Ten Entrepreneurship Educators of the Year by the Kauffman Foundation and the Entrepreneur of the Year Institute. In 1998, Dr. Cadenhead and the MOOT CORP® Competition were featured in Inc. magazine.
